CA-2A:
Recurrences or New Injuries/Illnesses
A recurrence of an injury is one of the following:
When
your case file is closed by the Department of Labor and one needs to reopen
the case.
Most recurrences fall under the above mentioned categories. The key words are "Spontaneously appear without an intervening incident or event", and then a reoccurrence has occurred. Example: An employee picks up a heavy object or injured his or her back. Files a CA-1 and misses work for one week. Upon returning to work after some time has elapsed the symptoms of pain returns for no apparent reason. This falls under a CA-2A. Caution: If the employee picked up another heavy object or slips and falls at work, this is a new injury and he/she should file a CA-1, not a CA-2A. If the employee has a new incident, an "intervening cause" has occurred so this is a new injury. Finally, when one case file is closed and one has a recurrence of symptoms, then one needs a Medical Report saying that the problem has reoccurred and that it is related to the original injury or occupational disease or illness.
